The Health Department provides quality health care, preventive medical and
dental services, and environmental protection for the citizens of New Hanover
County thought its divisions. The Health Programs Administration Division provides
Health Promotion through educational programs such as General Health Education,
Tobacco Prevention/Project ASSIST, Injury Prevention, and Women's Health Education.
The Dental Health Division utilizes numerous strategies to improve the oral
health of the citizens of New Hanover County which involve increased use of
dental sealants, periodic dental assessments with referral, dental health education,
community water fluoridation, and activities to assure access to care. Adults,
community groups, and children in grades kindergarten through the fifth grade
are provided with on healthy lifestyles regarding diet, brushing, flossing,
use of fluorides, and the need for regular dental care.
The Personal Health Services(PHS)Division provides clinical services such as
STD Information, Women's Preventive Health (Family Planning), Breast and Cervical
cancer control program (BCCCP), Child Health (Well-Child Physicals only), Neurology,
Male Health, HIV Counseling and Testing, Wise Woman, Vasectomy program, Immunizations,
Miscellaneous Injections, TB Skin Testing, and Pregnancy Testing.
