New Hanover County Libraries are the following five: Carolina Beach Library, Law Library, Myrtle Grove Branch, New Hanover County Public Library, and Northeast Regional. These Libraries form part of the New Hanover County library system. The main library located downtown is the New Hanover County Public Library. The main library opened its doors in 1735.

The Library system collection consists of more than 340,000 items. This includes books, and audio books on CD or cassette. Apart from the items the library system offers downloadable audio books for computers or mobile media players via the internet. Three meeting rooms are available for reservation at the Main Library, Myrtle Grove Branch, and the Northeast Regional Library.
