New Hanover Humane Society is a non-profit organization with low cost spay and neutering. They provide temporary shelter and care to the homeless animals of New Hanover County. Their goal is to place these pets in loving and responsible permanent homes. Services include Adoptions, Spay/Neuter Program, Lost & Found Service, Emergency Service, and Cruelty Investigation.

Adoption fees for dogs include up to date shots worming, spaying or neutering, collar, and leash. Cats fees also include up to date shots worming, spaying or neutering, collar and a cardboard cat carrier. As part of the adoption process, all adopter’s will be asked to fill out an adoption application and when applicable the staff conducts yard checks.

It will like to be added that animals may also be adopted at New Hanover County Animal Control Services. This facility requires those who are interested in adopting a pet to fill out a Adoption Contract and Adoption Refund Policy. Dogs, Cats, ferrets four months of age or older must be given a rabies vaccination within three days of being adopted. After four months they are required to receive a rabies vaccination.
